Certified Hand Therapist – Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine – Orlando

Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire an Certified Hand Therapist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Florida Hospital Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation – RDV is located on the first floor of the RDV Sportsplex; a 365,000 square foot building designed to promote the health and wellness of individuals and their families. As part of therapy, patients have access to over 450 pieces of strength and cardiovascular equipment. Services offered include physical therapy, occupational therapy and aquatic therapy for adolescent, adult and elderly patients for a variety of orthopedic diagnoses ranging from pre- and post-surgical to minor sprains and strains. The staff at this facility includes therapists board certified in hand therapy and orthopedics as well as certified manual therapists. Our highly trained team provides individualized, evidence based and progressive treatment using a sports medicine approach.

M-F; 6a-6p (varies)



Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Lead – Outpatient leads the clinical rehabilitation team (therapists, assistants, athletic trainers, techs, volunteers, and interns) with positive influence and by example while providing occupational therapy in the outpatient rehabilitation setting. Assists Manager/Director with interviews, orientation of new hires, rounding with employees’ physicians and patients, completion of staff annual competencies, and development of clinical staff in areas of continuing education, mentoring and documentation. Responsible for dispensing and collecting chart audit reviews, inputting of PI data, and review of results with team and individuals. Performs evaluations, re-evaluations, and status updates per department standards. Establishes, implements and adapts an individualized treatment plan of care that includes appropriate goal setting, treatments and frequency. Discharges patients when maximum benefit has been achieved and/or per standards of practice and payer guidelines. Accepts the responsibility to practice autonomously and collaboratively in all practice environments to provide best practice to the patient/client. Documents and charges accurately, completely, timely, and legibly per departmental/hospital and insurance guidelines. Utilizes process improvement in achieving the goals of the Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine department. May supervise other therapists, assistants, athletic trainers, technical aides, volunteers and interns. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to be independent, self-determined, have professional judgment and action
  • Basic computer skills to include Outlook, Microsoft Office and Windows (Preferred)
  • Professional commitment to patient-oriented practice (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy AND
  • Five or more years of work experience as a licensed and treating Occupational Therapist, OR
  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy AND
  • Two years of work experience as a licensed and treating Occupational Therapist
  • Certified Hand Therapist with Outpatient experience of least 3-5 years.  


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Current, active State of Florida license as an Occupational Therapist


Job Responsibilities:

  • Fosters development of staff by completing clinical competencies with new hires and each clinical staff member prior to annual review. Facilitates orientation of newly hired clinical staff as assigned by manager/director. Collaborates with Manager/Director on approval of clinical staff continuing education requests. Coordinates in-services by clinical staff and vendors. Assists manager/director with clinical staff annual performance appraisals including setting clinical and career-planning goals. Actively serves as a mentor or assigns a mentor from the team to new graduates. Engages in promoting evidence-based standards of care and lifelong learning through autonomous and collaborative participation in research, journal club/reviews, teaching/mentoring/clinical instructor, and/or clinical practice education within a peer group.
  • Assists in daily operations including active involvement in clinical and service rounding, leading staff meetings, and management reports as needed. Collaborates with manager/director on clinician and tech schedules to best meet the patients’ needs. Investigates, responds to, and resolves complaints. Is available as a clinical resource for physicians, patients and staff. Escalates issues, as appropriate, to the manager or senior management team for resolution.
  • Performs evaluations and re-evaluations per standards and recommended techniques. Establishes, implements and adapts an individualized treatment plan of care (including appropriate goal setting, treatment activities and frequency). Discharges patients when maximum benefit has been achieved and/or per standards of practice and payer guidelines.
  • Documents and charges accurately, completely, timely, and legibly. Uses measurable and objective terminology per standards of practice, follows insurance and department/hospital guidelines.
  • Identifies the need for patient/caregiver education and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis. Documents education and understanding, as appropriate. Utilizes knowledge of growth and development for assigned patient age population. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Interprets data relative to patient age. Modifies approach and communication skills appropriate to the patient served, which may include: Neonate/Infant (birth < 1), Pediatric (1 < 12 yrs.), Adolescent (12 < 18 yrs.), Adult (18 < 65 yrs.) and Geriatric (65 + yes).
  • Participates in practice changes because of performance improvement activities. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Coordinates regular chart audits and reviews for accurate and timely completion for assigned area/team including input of PI data as required. Educates clinical team and coaches individuals to support regulatory and content compliance with clinical documentation
  • Meets at least 90% of the productivity standard.
  • Actively supports scheduling so that each patient meets the plan of care as agreed upon by the patient and referring physician by adjusting and adapting their own schedule and/or working within the team to meet the patients’ needs. Willingly adjusts to changes in patient census by altering working hours to assist in other centers/programs as needed/approved and observed by manager or director.
  • Regularly participates in marketing to physicians/physician practices to build referral relationships with a minimum of two contacts per month. Supports consumer marketing and public awareness through participation in community events, educational lectures/speaking, and/or other extension of clinical expertise to the community as approved by manager or director.
  • Practices principles of employee and patient safety when performing daily job activities via observation and assists manager/director with staff adherence to the FH Compliance Plan, rules and regulations of all local, state, and federal agencies, and with the standards of all accrediting bodies and payers as evident through documentation reviews, tracers and rounds results. Takes responsibility of the environment of care by monitoring and acting as needed.
