GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Manager is the designated leader for the Sterile Processing unit. Responsible for the assigned staff. The Manager plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the unit activities. Provides direction, support and guidance to the Lead Technician and Sterile Processing Team in their technical development and all department processes.  The Manager is also responsible for department Quality Control to ensure patient safety.  Twenty-four hour accountability.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates responsible decision making in planning, providing, and delegating care based on assessment of patient population.
  • Communicates effectively.  Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians and administration.
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional manner.
  • Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
  • Cooperates well with peers and supports group decisions.
  • Communicates appropriate information to ACNO/CNO a timely manner.
  • Documents accurately and timely according to guidelines.
  • Maintains a clear, neat and safe environment for patients and staff
  • Insures supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and organized in an efficient manner
  • Correctly identifies and uses appropriately personal protective equipment
  • Seeks information/guidance from others as needed
  • Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum five years clinical experience in area of specialty or related clinical field. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing or technician school preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • AHA BLS required
  • IAHC SMM or CSPDM Certification required

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • Current RN license or CST in Florida preferred
